• How do I open a bank account?

  You need a bank account to have money sent from your employer or from the office. If you want to open a bank account, you can do that for example at the Sparkasse Bremerhaven. You can get assistance  in a branch nearby.

• Where do I get financial support?

  If you are new in Bremerhaven, you get financial support from the “Sozialamt” (Social Services Office).

  If you receive social benefits or financial support, you can get the money either be picking up a cheque each month or by having it sent to your bank account.

• What kind of support offers the "Sozialamt"?

  At the “Sozialamt”, you can apply for different kinds of social benefits, for instance “Elterngeld “(parents’ money), “Unterhaltsvorschuss” (advance payment of maintenance) and the “Bildungs- und Teilhabepaket” (support for education and participation). Find out from your office what benefits you can get.
